Jim Carpenter taught high-school English for 12 years before joining the world of application design, where he held a series of positions in both application development and management for more than 20 years. During that time he, along with two partners, founded, expanded, and sold a company that developed software products for the election industry. He then worked as an independent software-development consultant and joined the affiliated faculty at The Wharton School (mostly so so he could up his rates) where he currently teaches computer programming and systems design.
